El Hierro has a very particular landscape, varied vegetation rounden by volcanoes



El Hierro is the smallest and the newest one of the Canary Islands. Because of its recent formation El Hierro’s vegetation isn’t as abundant as in the islands around and its volcanos are the youngest. However, El Hierro has 150 of the different canary endemic vegetal species, 11 of them only exist in El Hierro.  With a 278 km2 surface it has different landscapes diveded in three areas. The arid area has tabaibas and cardon (euphorbia canariensis). The semihumid area has cactus, agave, palms and the ancient sabina tree. And the humid area has laurisilva woods, fayal, brezo (calluna vulgaris). All mixed with a beautiful volcanic landscape.

Coasts in El Hierro are rocky and rough . There you can find cliffs, beaches and even a kind of natural “swimming pools”. The oceann is one of the main attractions there. That’s why El Hierro is a perfect destination for acuatic sports. Diving, paragliding, surf, mountain bike, hiking, speleologyEl Hierro‘s first inhabitants were the Bimbaches. Originally from the north of Africa they have left many petroglyphs you can find all around the island. Trekking is another option in El Hierro. There are different routes to do by walk.
