Garajonay National Park

Legend has it that two lovers called Gara and Jonay committed suicide in this summit because her family was opposed to the wedding of the two lovers.

 

Declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1986, Garajonay is one of the best laurel forests. The Garajonay National Park is a different landscape, a large forest surrounded by a constant fog that contrasts with the whole territory of La Gomera.

 

The Garajonay Nationalpark is situated in the center of the island slopes forming some hills and lush forests. The weather is a factor very important in the conservation of this forest. The humidity, the relief, the fog condenses, created a perfect scenario not only for the laurisilva forest but also the visnea mocanera, the madroño and the white heather.

 

In the Garajonay Nationalpark we can also find species of birds, such as the sparrowhawk or the turqué pigeon, reptiles such as the lizard of La Gomera or spectacular geological monuments such as the Los Roques, with a great landscape value.

 

It is easy to access the Garajonay Nationalpark as there is an island network of roads and can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 to 16:30 hours. There is also the possibility of hiring guided tours.
